An Unearthly Child 1 - Susan Foreman
I can't remember where I actually started with my custom creations - I think it was probably with a more contemporary companion like Martha Jones - but why not start at the beginning and work my way up. Not that I am going to stick to a chronological order or anything here, it's just easier to start at the start. And the start would be the Doctor's first companion ever, his granddaughter Susan.
Given that Susan is from Gallifrey and is a Time Lord the same as the Doctor it's debatable if her name really is Susan at all, but it's all we were given. Since the first episode there have been a lot of other Time Lords in the series but their names rarely approach anything resembling an Earth norm like Susan; closest we really got as far as I can remember is a Time Lord named Damon in 1982's Arc if Infinity. But whatever her real name is, Susan is the first and as far as I am concerned she should have been one of the first classics made. The first Doctor action figure was released alongside the first version of the TARDIS police box, and then twice with a Dalek, and twice with all the other Doctors in a big collection box. Surely there was room to have a first Doctor and Susan double pack?

I took a look around and saw what other customizers were doing to make a SusanPrimeval line as my base figure; she was the right height and needed just a few minor adjustments like trimming off the tops of her unlaced boots and then giving her new hair and a new top. I'm not very skilled at making hair still so it was something to bear in mind when trying to recreate Susan's 1960's hairdo.
for themselves and there were some more successful than others as with all things. My first big decision was what to have her wearing? Susan had a lot of different outfits and given the limited materials I would be working with here to make her I would not have a lot of chances to dress her up. I picked the Abby Maitland action figure from Character Options'
My end result is Susan as she appeared in her final episode, The Dalek Invasion of Earth. If I can lay my hands on some more Abby action figures somewhere down the line I may give this another try but I'd like to have at least one of everything before I go back and start with variations. I'll also need to amass a small fortune as more of these figures will require exactly that given how hard they are to come by. And I don't for one second think that there are that many Primeval fans out there trying to grab these up, I'm sure it's all customizers doing it.
